This is Charleston's only Dominican restaurant. Some of the staff are from the Dominican Republic. Everyone is very nice. The ambiance id great. It's very spacious. My wife's family is from the D.R. and she attests that the quality of their food is good. They offer lots of authentic Dominican foods as well as imported Dominican sodas in glass bottles. We highly recommend checking them out.

I was in the mood for Puerto Rican food and did a search, and Manjar came up, so I took a drive there. The restaurant is fairly big with a bar on one end and tables and cafeteria style ordering on the other. I ordered arroz con gandules, pernil and empanada. It was so delicious. There is a variety of choices for all types of meat, rice, beans and extras. I saw a to go order of mofongo with shrimp, which I didn't see on the menu, so it must be special order. I plan on going thru the menu and ordering something different every time I go. I highly recommend Manjar for your boriqua cravings. You won't be disappointed.

I had a craving for fried plantains. Well, I found this place and honestly I did not know what to order. It's set up like a buffet and you make your selections and it's arranged by the waitress, she brings to your table. I did not see the fried plantains I was craving, but I did find a whole plantain stuffed with savory ground beef and topped with melted cheese. Then I got shredded beef and rice with beef. Honestly, I ordered by sight, not knowing how it might all taste. I have to say, for the price one pays it's a whole lot of food, and it's savory (I had food for another day) If you have experienced Latin food I think is on point. Something I can eat in another month or two. The waitress was full of energy, lively!

I'm not positive if it's Puerto Rican but as a Puerto Rican, they have dishes I recognize so that's why I labeled as such when creating this Yelp business. Reviews elsewhere talk about slow service if you order off the menu, because the items are made fresh. My boyfriend & I got food from the hot bar. We tried several of the meats, arroz con gandules, beans and some salad. We didn't get there until about 8pm so the hot bar wasn't super fresh. The chicken was dry but everything else was DELICIOUS! As good as my mom's cooking which is very, very rare when it comes to Puerto Rican food. The hot bar was about $15 per person, so great price too. The drinks were all delicious except neither of us cared for the Ocean Water drink. Patience is required because they're short-staffed but totally worth it. We're switching my daughter's graduation dinner to this spot. Oh the women's bathroom lighting is garbage.
